Doc Abel was born and raised in Iriga City, Camarines Sur to Abel Ramos Jr a Government worker and Beatriz II Barroga, an OFW. He finished elementary at the Modern Learning Center of Iriga City as Class Valedictorian.  He attended the Ateneo de Naga University High School where he graduated with Academic Distinction.

Coming from humble roots, this Probinsyano applied for financial aid determined to secure scholarships for college and medical school.  He studied at  the Ateneo de Manila University where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. He took up Medicine at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center where he also had his Post Graduate Internship. He is a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Medical Fraternity in UERMMMC becoming the Grand Aesculapian in his junior year. He also holds a Masters Degree in Hospital Administration from St. Jude College, Manila.

After passing the Physician Licensure Examination, he went  back  to  serve his home province completing a 5 - Year General Surgery Training Program with ACES - BICOL (An accredited  surgical  training  consortium in Naga City between Bicol Medical Center and Universidad de Sta Isabel - Mother Seton Hospital) where he was Chief Resident in his final year. He then pursued another 2 - Year Sub-Specialty Training in Surgical Oncology at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital. Our Surgical Oncologist is board certified in the fields of General Surgery and Cancer Surgery having passed the written and oral examinations for both specialties. His main areas of expertise include solid tumors of the Breast, Thyroid, Head and Neck, Esophago-Gastric, Skin and Soft Tissues. 

Doc Abel is a Diplomate of the Philippine Board of Surgery and the Philippine Board of Surgical Oncology.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Philippine College of Surgeons, Philippine Society of General Surgeons and the Surgical Oncology Society of the Philippines.  He is an Associate Member of the Philippine Society of Ultrasound in Surgery and a Member of the Philippine Association of Training Officers in Surgery. He is an author / co-author  of  several published and non-published case reports and researches and has presented in conferences both locally and abroad. Throughout his training, he gained ample  experience in various open and minimally invasive procedures for cancer and non-cancer related cases learning from some of the best surgical minds in the country. 

He is currently a Consultant of the Division of Surgical Oncology, Department of Surgery, Bicol Medical Center and is a Visiting Consultant in all major hospitals in Camarines Sur.
